A Nanny's Dairy [Intro]

8:04 PM

(That is me as a child...thank my mother for those bangs)

So, I start my nanny job this Friday with the same wonderful family I worked with last summer and I got to thinking.....
I'LL BLOG ABOUT IT. CAUSE WHAT'S MORE EXCITING THAN TALKING ABOUT KIDS?! AM I RIGHT?

In a seriousness, I think it will keep me motivated with engaging with the kids with new activities and fun experiences.

I've been nanning now for the past three years and I've found it quite rewarding when in all actuality I wasn't much of a "kid" person before I took the job. Don't get me wrong kids LOVE me. What's not to love? (Quite a lot)

I just found kids messy and loud and very clingy. I like my space. I like my quiet time. I also like things clean.

But when I worked for my first family up at school I fell in love with the kids. The youngest was four and gave me the hardest time but she was also the one that stole my heart. These kids where also mentally on another level. They loved Harry Potter which was awesome so I could go on rants with them and never feel ashamed. The middle child was a boy and he would tell me how his friend and him would discuss different ways the earth was formed. (the kid was 7)  So, I got lucky in the sense that I could be mentally stimulated and not have to talk in broken sentences or stretch my voice to the highest octave capable.

The family I am currently working for and also did last summer, are two boys. I love it because they are at the age where they can take care of themselves I just assist and point them in the right direction. It can also be boring at times when they run off with their neighborhood friends and leave me behind. I feel like a forgotten  housewife, just waiting for attention from my long lost husband and children.

Anyway, I really want to get some ideas to get the boys active and keep them busy while also adding in some important mind stimulating activities.

Feedback from my fellow nanny community is welcome. I will be back with periodic "A Nanny's Dairy Entry" posts starting Friday. Stay tuned for some interesting and not so interesting stories. I'm really setting this up for failure. Regardless, stay tuned...

  1. That sounds like a great idea! Planning adventures with the boys can certainly keep all of you active and entertained. Try some things outside the box like Cranbrook, Detroit Zoo or go-carting...maybe even laser tag just to name a few. Look forward to hearing some of your adventures together!
