Movie Review: Suicide Squad

8:41 AM

Over the weekend my boyfriend and I went to see the highly anticipated, "Suicide Squad." However, we were slightly late to see it and were already aware of how poorly reviewed it was. We both went into it with an open mind and hoping the critics were wrong.

They were right.
*May be some spoliers* Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I don't really know where to start because the movie is so flawed and poorly directed/poorly scripted/poor/sucked/all around just bad, that I need to organize my thoughts.

Okay, so I'll start with the positives and what could have potentially been a great film if they had done everything they didn't do. So, my favorite character was Deadshot and not for all the right reasons. I will note, that I read somewhere, Deadshots eye gadget was on the wrong eye. That would have bothered me if I had read the comics but I hadn't and trust me that should be the least of your worries when it come to this film. It was basically Will Smith but in a Deadshot costume. Which is great and why he was my favorite because it was all of the Will Smith humor everyone loves  and also his backstory was the most compelling and relatable if you will compared to the other characters. But is that really what we wanted from a super heroish character? Not really, personally.

Also, Harley Quinn was interesting to watch but I wanted to see more of her and the backstory between her and the joker.

Which brings me to Jared Letos performance of the joker. Well, it was good but he was hardly present in the film. He was in serveral flashbacks and the rest were the EXACT SCENES THAT WERE IN THE TRAILER. NO JOKE (pun not intended) SCENE BY SCENE PRETTY MUCH THE ONLY SCREEN TIME HE HAD WAS SEEN IN THE TRAILER. Did the all caps make myself clear?

Which brings me to my next rant and basically part of the reason I'm taking up my time to even "review" this movie. I'm mad. Genuinely mad at Hollywood for there lack of creativity, poor script writing, the marketing team and DC comics! Why can't you get it right? I will applaud one group out of those I've named. The marketing team. Wow, you really had me fooled with those trailers. At least you brought the audience in to see it and then had all their hopes and dreams of what they thought they were going to see crushed and destroyed. The entire beginning of the movie was the trailer with a few extra scenes thrown in there.
I don't understand how or who concluded the direction of this film was a good idea because whoever gave it a green light, you are not the brightest bulb.

*SPLOIER ALERT* Why in gods name when introducing a group of semi-super heros would you make a villain with powers of almost a God? It right away sets up the movie for failure because it makes it so unbelievable. For those confused, Enchantress is the villian in this movie who is a witch from thousands of years ago who has taken over someone's body (I won't get into specifics) and basically wants to destroy the world because the humans turned against them and wants to build a "machine" to destroy them all. I am hitting myself with a book right now because I am so dumbfounded of how utterly stupid and unoriginal of a plot line that is. Really?!!!! She even says the line "My spell is now complete." You know that emoji with the straight across eyes and straight mouth? That is my face right now and everything I'm feeling. I just can't believe how utterly boring the scriptwriting was and how unoriginal this plot line was.
Do they even realize that simplicity is actually more desirable? It also would have saved them millions of dollars to not have EVERYTHING I MEAN EVERYTHING with CGI. Also, the most no-brainer route they SHOULD have gone, was to make the joker the villain. But no, they wanted to "trick" the audience by making a horrible movie and also teasing in the trailers that the joker would be the villan. In actuallity they chose the worst kind of villain that doesn't even speak a lick of English and has no motive really to end the human race. Bravo, take a bow and now run because I'm about to show you what a real villan looks like.

All around just disappointed in the lack of creativity and simplicity of the film. Christopher Nolan. Please show them the light. Or darkeness. Whatever it is you do, please do it for every super hero film.

Sincerely,

Every DC, Marvel, super hero fan out there

With that I'm giving this film a D+ which is harsh but the fact that I was deceived makes me angry. So, ha! That will teach you film makers a lesson! An unknown, spec of dust in a sea of a million bloggers gave you a D+! I hope you think about what you've done. Okay, I need to get back to something productive.

Tune in for more rants coming soon to blog near you...
